![]() Jake's Clever Banter You know why you're seeing this strip just now? Because I'M just seeing it now, because Tim was apparently spending his time in that REAL LIFE crap. *Grumbles*... Anyways, fortunes have changed in the past few days. First off, I got Ico, Silent Hill 2, and the Simpsons DVD set. Ico is dreamy, as previously thought, Silent Hill 2 is frickin' awesome, though not as scary as the first (Just barely- the first monsters you run into are just damn silly), and the Simpsons DVD is bloody awesome. Add to that the fact that I may very well be getting a job repping for (Among other companies) God Games (Max Payne, Serious Sam, Tropico), and this has been a very busy, albeit very awesome, way to end a damn crappy week. If all goes according to plan, by Friday I'll be earning about twice what I am now, representing a company who publishes some supposedly fantastic games (My PC is too crappy to run 'em) Gaw, I'd better cut this short so I can post the comic PRONTO. 9/26/01 - Getting on with my life... Let me just say that the guy that bought my old house is an ass monkey. Thank god all our stuff is out of that house and with any luck, I'll never have to see him again, which comes as some consolation despite all I've lost because of him. In addition to my memory cards (Money and time), my energy, my state of mind, my health, my good standings with my employers, and my faith in humanity, this man took away my today. Which wouldn't have been so bad if today didn't happen to see the release of Ico, Silent Hill 2, and the Simpsons First Season DVD. Did I mention this man is an ass monkey? Well, with any luck, I'll be able to get 'em tomorrow, and it's a good thing, too, because word is that all three of them meet expectations (If you expect the Simpsons first season to be decent, but not as good as, say, the third or fourth season, which I do). Meantime, I'm getting farther into Advance Wars, and though it's getting more complicated, it's still a hell of a lot of fun. Starcraft, scmarcraft- This and FF Tactics are what makes the strategy genre worthwhile. 9/24/01 - A day late and a dollar short Well, I'm in the process of moving now, and I can totally empathize with what Piro had to go through. Towards the end of last week, I had strips going up through 'till last Friday. Ish told me he'd have today's strip in my mailbox by Thursday. Well, it didn't turn out that way. I got it YESTERDAY, and was only able to get on my computer to do something with it today. THAT's why today's strip is late. Now, I don't hold any malice against you guys, but please Ish, Tim, try and get stuff to me ahead of time in the future, eh? In addition, I have all the crap that comes with moving on my shoulders. The only videogame system I have accessable is my Gameboy, I've broken a cabinet of mine, and that's only the start. You see, the other day, the guy who's buying my old house came over to paint while I was at work. He brought a guy he barely knew to help him, and at the end of the day, I had over $150 in Playstation memory cards and controllers missing. And the way it was done, it's obvious this guy no one knows stole it, though he won't admit to it. So now, not only do I have to spend $150 on replacement videogame crap, but I've lost hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of game saves. So, you see, I'm very unhappy. I suppose I should be thankful that I DIDN'T lose my mem card with all my RPG saves on it, but I lost EVERYTHING on my PS2, as well as my Medal of Honor saves and god knows what else. I need to get a new mem card if I even want to PLAY Silent Hill 2 and Ico. Shit. *Sigh* At least the new GBA game Advance Wars is so awesome it temporarily takes my mind off of these things. I could cry. Anyways, today's comic is the one Shirt-Guy Gom warned about earlier. Ish noticed that it could have been seen Rei's thoughts as something belittling the value of life, and considering how much life was lost lately, I wanted to prepare people for it. |
![]() Tim's Clever Banter Rei Ayanami is always calm, always quiet... she is very serene, despite living in a world of violence, where she is destined to pilot a giant robot. Rei lives alone, usually left to her own thoughts, without anybody to share them with. It's this fragility that makes her character so endearing... even if she barely mutters three sentences per episode, her gaze is enough. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the Evangelion character designer, describes Rei "like a shadow or the air. The kind of girl you can't touch. The kind of girl you long for, but there is nothing about her that you can grab a hold onto." No wonder Tim had such a tough time even trying to strike a conversation with her. Although what Tim went through is nothing compared to the hell Shinji went through... Doing something as simple as delivering a NERV I.D. card to Rei can prove to be quite a task. Moving on... The three characters who got "boinked" into the real world in September 19th's strip are, from left to right: Toji Suzuhara, Hikari Horaki, and Kensuke Aida. The two boys are the only real friends Shinji gains while attending school in Tokyo-3. Shinji rescues them during his second fight with an Angel, while barely holding onto his own sanity. Toji and Kensuke mainly serve as comedy relief, easing Shinji's tension, although Toji does eventually play a major part in the overall story. Hikari is the representative of their high school class, eventually becoming Asuka's best friend, and a "friend" to Toji. Other than that she enjoys yelling at people to behave. In other non-Evangelion-related news, I should be getting Silent Hill 2 and Ico today, the first two big PS2 games of the season. I'll give you full impressions on both titles Friday (along with more boring Eva stuff!)
BEEF! Hit men rule. Anyway, time for more Explanations of Evangelion! *cue fanfare music* Okay... I guess now I should explain what's been going on in the past few Mognet strips and WHY it's been going on... When Tim and Caspian first appear in Evangelion they meet Misato Katsuragi, third-in-command of NERV, in Tokyo-3. The city is practically empty because it's a decoy -- a battlefield where the Evangelions and Angels fight. Misato takes Tim, Cas, and Ish to her apartment, which she shares with Shinji and Asuka Langly Soryu, an obnoxious babe of a braggart who also pilots an Evangelion. Shinji, who hates his father and yet yearns for his acceptance, has been welcomed by Misato to live with her. Once Asuka moves in with them Shinji sort of gains a surrogate family. Everything would be sweet as candy if it weren't for Asuka's enormous jealousy of Shinji's Eva-piloting prowess. Tossing Cas and Ish in there with 'em just complicates matters further -_^. Tim, however, is stuck with Rei Ayanami, the first child chosen to pilot an Evangelion. It's because of her, in the first episode, that Shinji decides to pilot the Evangelion, to help ease the suffering she's experienced during her battle with the first returning Angel. Rei is an enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a bootylicious blue-haired babe. Her entire background was erased by NERV. Her expression never shows any emotion.
Yada yada yada. I gotta go run. |
