Well, if you've been reading my comments on The GIA boards, you'll know I recently got the new PS2 Jam Pack demo disc, and I was absolutely floored by the demos for ICO and Klonoa 2. If anyone reading this has ANY doubt wether or not they'll be getting either of these games, you should get this Jam Pack PRONTO. Well... unless you don't have a PS2. If you don't have a PS2, it'd be silly to get a PS2 demo disc... Erm... Anyways, this is my first solo update, so I suppose I have to provide all the interesting... uhhh... stuff. Uhhhhh......... Anyways, although we've been experimenting with the strip layout for a while, this is the first time we've had more than four panels. Really, I'd thought that it'd be best to do all the strips with four, but it's becoming quite apparent that some call for more. Erm... but I'm jabbering on. Anyways, uhhhh... *Can't think of anything else to say* Get that Jam Pack, now! 7/18/01 - I'm... All alone... *Sniff* Well, poo. Tim's leaving for vacation pretty soon (You can look at his side for details), which means I'll probably have to resort to getting my good conversation from the folks at the GIA boards, who apparently hate me for a comment I made about an article the GIA wrote. *Sigh* Where's Nadia and her peace-keeping "waiiiiiii!"s when you need her? In any case, don't fret, because Tim and I are trying fervently to create a backlog of strips before he leaves, and hopefully, aside from his lack of commentary and absence from the forum, you won't even know he's gone. Oh... Wait, I told you he'd be gone, didn't I? Hmm... Anyways, in today's strip, we reveal Ish's dark little secret. When we asked Ish if we could make him a character in the comic, he said that'd be fine, but he wanted to have a mega-buster. *Shrug* Works for me. I just hope no one sees the paralells between that and Jordan from Exploitation Now. Oh... Wait, I just told you, didn't I? Well, nomatter. Ish isn't a large-chested megalomaniac girl. And as far as I'm concerned, he has no sex appeal whatsoever! ... What!? Jordan's hot! Erm... anyways, in other news, more and more nowadays, I'm anticipating the upcoming Ico for PS2, and no, it has nothing to do with the GIA's updated preview. Just watching the intro movie (The one at the bottom of the page), I'm falling in love with this game. It has a kind of sad, quiet beauty that defies words. Really, I can't remember being in awe of a game's inherent beauty like this since... well, since Super Mario 64. Do yourself a favor, and watch that movie. It's lo-quality, but I still think you'll be impressed, too. Anyways, despite the lack of hype Sony's given it, the gaming press as a whole seems very optemistic about it. IGN, The GIA, and Gamespot all seem just as impressed with it as I am, and the only people who don't seem to be talking about it are... the gamers. Really, for gawd sakes, check out that movie. This game could very well be the sleeper hit of the year. Oh, before I forget, I should tell you I've added a few more of Tim's Ish brainstorming sketches to the art section. Wheeee! Oh, and by the way, Gran Turismo 3 still rocks 7/16/01 - We're famous! In a "Nobody knows who we are" kinda' way... Well, for those of you that read the Oldskooled webcomic regularly, you'll notice they've mentioned us in their latest update, 'cause I did a keen guest strip for them. Yup, all by myself. That's what's so great about Oldskooled guest comics- no art skills necessary whatsoever. In other news, apparently the Final Fantasy movie is doing piss-poor in the box office, despite the whole "revolutionizing realism in computer graphics as we know it" thing. I suppose this means the end of Square and the entire Japanese economy as we know it... if we were to believe everything Square told us. In any case, maybe I should watch it again... one of those "Take a hit for the team" kinda' things. *Shrugs* In other matters pertaining to movies, I finally got around to seeing L.A. Confidential, and let me tell you- This movie ROCKS! Don't be fooled by the stupid boring-looking title- This is a fast-paced murder mystery with plenty of action and GREAT characters. I didn't think Russel Crowe deserved an oscar for Gladiator, but he definetly deserved one for this. I'm telling you people- go see this movie NOW. Anyways, lots of comic stuff today. First off, in today's comic, we introduce the last of the main characters (Well, at least for a long while), Ish. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the answer is "no." We're not gonna' make Ish just some rip-off of Riff. I just couldn't resist the joke. Anyways, along with the introduction of a new character comes a new character bio, some new brainstorming sketches (Check the art section), and I archived all the old "rants" as well, meaning I prettymuch had to update half the 'site in one night. *Shrugs* Oh well. Oh, and by the way, Gran Turismo 3 still frickin' rocks. |
I'm going to Europe. FOREVER. Aha ha ha ha! No, that's a blatant LIE. This Sunday I am vacationing to London. A week later, I'll be in Dublin. And in the first week of August I'll be back home in horrible, horrible New Jersey... What does all this mean for me?! I'll be able off the continent of North America for the first time in my life, and I hope to enjoy it. I mean, what's better than the birthplace of Monty Python and chasing after leprechauns? ....Besides videogames, anime, and meat, nothing much. What's all this mean for Mognet?! Not much. You'll still be getting quality comic strips (especially since the story finally picks up by then), Jake will be around to maintain order, and you'll be free of my banal commentary columns. Ah, I can hear the cheers of joy now... But I shall return. Meanwhile, I'll be in New York City today where I'll be going to French restaurants, attending the play Contact (it has nothing to do with the movie/book, you rural bumpkins), and making mischief with the hobos. So if any of you swingin' New Yorkers (I am a native New Yorker myself) happen to see a tall, hairy guy in a Mognet T-shirt be sure to say "Hi!" ....Joke's on you!! We don't have T-shirts! On Thursday I'll be in Maryland taking care of complicated family matters. "Did I do that? Hee hee hee hee hee hee..." Upon returning Friday night I'll watch Farscape and The Invisible Man all the while working on more Mognet strips until Sunday night when I fly across the Atlantic Ocean on my beautiful balloon. GASP! How's that for a run-on sentence?
Well, that's my whole schedule for the next few days.
I'm sure I bored you all.
It's odd, yes, we videogamers have lives outside of
their homes. So, that's it. I should
have some time for one last commentary before I leave.
If not, enjoy the comics, make
sure Jake gets tons of feedback, and... ta! To complete our webcomic's idea of characters based on the staff... the new character, Ish, is based on our resident coloring guy... Joe Ishikura! Take a bow, sugar beet! And so, the main character introductions are done and the story can finally pick up steam. It's gonna get even steamier as the weeks roll by... *nudge nudge* Ish's character design was inspired mostly by anime characters... Ish's hair, which is actually done in that poofy/spiky sort of style closely resembles Tenchi Masaki from the moronic Tenchi Muyo! series. The cape-mantle-thing is a nod to Hiko Seijuro, the master of Hiten Mitsurugi swordsmenship, and one of the coolest characters from the Rurouni Kenshin TV and OAV series. It's just fitting to have so much Japanese inspiration for Mognet's first Japanese character... err, although... admittedly, Cas and Tim's designs vaguely resemble Evangelion's Kaji Ryouji and Shinji Ikari, respectively. Read: vaguely! Anyway, back to Ish... Ish is sort of a mixed bag. He's the wisest, and smartest one of the trio (quartet if you count Mog) yet he can also get quite emotional... usually angry. But I'm saying too much about Ish already too soon. As Mognet goes on, so will Ish. There's plenty of time to (not) understand him! ......Uhhhhhhh.................. |
