Jake's Clever Banter 5/22/02 - E-frickin'-3 Yeah, that's right. The holiest of holidays. The most eventful of events. This is where it all happens. Tomorrow, I leave for LA, on an adventure whose outcome I have only the faintest idea of. If everything goes smoothly, I'll have tons of pictures and stories to tell, and if not, I'll still have stories to tell. So, I know I've asked you guys this before, but this is the last chance to voice your opinions- Anything I should focus on? Anything in particular I should take pictures of, or any questions I should ask company reprasentatives? Post on the messageboard, people! Tomorrow night might be the last time I get a chance to check it from my hotel room, 'cause after that, it's expo time, baby! Meanwhile, I've had the chance to watch Star Wars Ep 2. And you know what? I'm not quite sure why I like it. Rest assured, I liked it, but in retrospect, I think the special effects were hit-and-miss, the acting was spotty at best, it didn't promote much thought, and the action got a bit tiring after a while. And as cool as it was, that scene with Yoda that everyone's talking about was really ludicrously silly. In the end, I think it might be the same way I felt about Phantom Menace- this movie has the same flaws, to a lesser extent. But... it's Star Wars. *Shrugs* All in all, there was good and there was bad, but there's some strange intangible quality that Star Wars films have that I just cant put my finger on, and as uninventive and ludicrous as it gets, it still has some of the magic that all the Star Wars movies have. I also finished the Trigun series. Wow. When I saw the first DVD or two in this series, I thought it was an uninspiring knockoff of Cowboy Bebop. Not bad, but not really good, either. About halfway through the show, the mood shifts VERY dramatically, and everything becomes VERY interesting. In the end, I highly reccomend the series, and I thank every one of the readers here who encouraged me to watch it. I'll say it- you were right and I was wrong. There. I said it.
