![]() Jake's Clever Banter It's like clockwork. Any time we start updating regularly, Keenspace wil screw up. It's like there's a rule about this or something. Mostly, I kid though. With all the crap I give Keenspace, they are a wonderful host. I mean, they're one of the few free web providers left that's reasonably lax on their advertising policies, and seemingly all because they just want to create a haven for webcomic people like us, and I say that, despite their problems, the auto-update scripts and flexible regulations are reason enough for me to commend them. Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, we've been updating regularly (M-W-F) for... going on two weeks now. I don't think we did a whole two weeks in a row 'since Mognet first started! Once again, I gotta' give props to Tim. I know (using the past as a reference), that he won't be able to keep it up forever, but I'm rootin' for him and curious to see just how far he can go. Go, Tim, go! *Does double-take* Whaaaa? That CAN'T be right.... You see, when we first started, I had the (Seemingly reasonable at the time) goal of updating more often than Megatokyo. And I suddenly realize, while we've been going strong for a couple of weeks, they've been doing Dead Piro days and Shirt-Guy Dom strips and now "Strips we trashed years ago, but are bringing up now to stall for time". Now, no doubt they have their reasons, but this means that for once in a blue moon we're actually BEATING Megatokyo for regular updates! WOOOOO! Go, Tim, go! Also, I have to tell ya', in the past, I've made no reservations about my art quality- it flat out sucks. I can do reality-based sketches pretty well as long as I can examine a source for an hour or so, but as far as anime goes, I suuu-uuuck. That's why I do the writin' and let Tim do the drawin'. Well, I talked with Tim about it the other day, and he pointed me here, to a website called Polykarbon, which has a tutorial section on how to draw anime characters. And, although I've tried this kinda' stuff before, for once this is actually working. After one day of studying, I've managed to draw what I feel is a decent anime face. I'm still having problems drawing males (All my anime faces end up looking very female), but overall, I definetly feel progress is being made. Hopefully, one day I will be worthy of sketching myself. I had goddamn well BETTER, because I spent a hundred fuggin' dollars on art supplies. I feel it's an investment, though, because I'm always tryin' to find stuff like pencils and erasers in this house. Now that I'm the source, I can pimp 'em out for a profit. "You want a sheet of paper? One Dollar!" "You need an eraser? Five dollar!". Well, shit, I've gotta' make my money back SOMEhow! Something got me thinking at the videogame arcade today. I was taking full advantage of one of my few chances to play the awesome, awesome game that is Police 911. Good god, that game is fun. I got to thinking, Konami said at one point that they were gonna' be releasing this game on the PS2. That was a year or so ago, and the release date has been continually pushed back. A few weeks ago, at E3, I didn't realize it, but Police 911 (In ANY form, including the upcoming sequel and spinoffs) was completely absent from Konami's booth. In fact, their only gun games at the show were just different versions of Silent Scope 3. I'm starting to worry that Konami may not port Police 911 to consoles at all, which would make me very sad. Maybe someday I'll just buy an actual arcade unit for a couple thousand dollars... Oh, getting back to the strip, in case you haven't noticed it, we're in another story arc, but this one I think is gonna' be pretty fun. Yeah, we're HN-ing Metal Gear Solid, and we're actually doing DIFFERENT jokes than the few dozen circulating around the internet now. No, I don't plan on making fun of Solid Snake's name. No, I don't plan on delving into how pathetic the "Love on the battlefeild" speech is. There are so many silly things in this game that I can make fun of some ORIGINAL things, thank you. And if we're all lucky, I might just pretend Metal Gear Solid 2's storyline just plain doesn't exist! Aren't I a nice guy? Well, I make no promises. Ha. In case you're just tuning in don't remember, or I just plain haven't said, I'd planned on starting Mognet with 3 story arcs to represent one of the best and most well-known peices of anime, videogame, and movie history. This means a few things- for starters, more people are more likely to recognize the source material, and thus more likely to get the jokes. Also, it means that I'm joking about material that's been joked about zillions of times before this, so I'm being very careful to try and keep everything fresh and original. Oh, and before I forget, I need to add a link in my links page for Restaurant. It's wacky. And with that, I'll leave you with three words: Go, Tim, go! 6/3/02 - Still... tired... OK, for starters, I'm waiting 'till the end of the week to send out the Panzer Dragoon Orta pins, just to do 'em all at the same time. Anyone who wants one needs to be sure to include their address with their E-Mail, as I need to know WHERE to send it. Again, to those just tuning in, I'm not holding a contest or anything- I'm just giving these things away for free. As for other stuff... My store had a Counter-Strike tournament that was pretty fun, even though we didn't get the turnout we were hoping for. And although I'm no big basketball fan, I couldn't help but get caught up in the mass hysteria of this most recent Lakers-Kings game. Everyone in town is just so extremely hyped-up for the hometeam, it's just a pity we lost. Took in a few new things lately. The Usual Suspects is a very good whodunnit kinda' thing. Uhh... I won't say any more so as not to spoil those who haven't seen it. Also, got Medal of Honor, and it's as good as I could have ever hoped for, but I've been spoiled by mouse/KB controls, so I'm having a difficult time adjusting to this... Blah. So tired... Maybe I'll talk more later... |
![]() Tim's Clever Banter Timbot here, with another update. Yup. The comic's still going strong. This'll last until I malfunction, which could be at ANY TIME, so you better pray for my survival, dear readers! Both of you! Been playing Final Fantasy X more often recently. I'm finally up to that point you get to in every Final Fantasy game. Y'know. When most plot revelations are...revealed, and there's nothing to do except side quests, until the final boss!
Ugh, my circuits are rusting. Poot. But I really know its summertime (springtime, whatever) is when I get the hankering to watch the Slayers movie. Y'know the Slayers. The anime featuring the greedy, fireball-flinging sorceress Lina Inverse. And let's not forget her buxom bimbo sidekick, Naga the Serpent! Oh ho ho! What I love most about this anime is the color. So vibrant! So bright! So bouncy! So animated! It's such a fun, summery anime, I could watch it over and over and still not get tired of Lina's and Naga's antics on Mipross Island. What's also pretty cool is that Slayers: The Motion Picture (TM) is one of the more serious Slayers stories. Lina and Naga unravel a mystery dealing with demon frogs, time travel, and reuniting two lovelorn elf-people-things. Yet it still manages to basically be an RPG spoof. And anything with Megumi Hayashibara can't be bad. Fun fun silly willy! Hey, this is weird. Mognet's still being updated and I'm commentating on inane and banal subjects. How can this be, you wonder? Well, that's simple. I'm not really Tim. Nope, Tim's trapped in a block of carbonite. You're dealing with Timbot 9000, baby!! ROCK ON!! End transmission. |
