7/26/02 - Can't.... wait...

According to Gameforms, next week, Famitsu magazine will reveal the next project of the team behind Ico, SCE R&D3 (That rhymes!). Will it be a sequel? Another Pseudo-sequel? While I'd love to see more of Ico (And by more, it's implied that I'd also like this game to be longer than six hours), I have to admit that anything coming from this team could hold enormous potential.

To refresh, aside from the team's director, one of the original founders of Tomba!'s Whoopee Camp, Ico was created by a group of people who had never worked on a videogame before. And when a developer's first project turns out as good as this (Last year, Ico was in the Top 10 lists of both me and Tim, as well as countless others), one wonders just what'll come next...

Well, Gameforms has little teenie-tiny pics, but I can do one better. A website called Tokyopia has a scan of one of the pics (Which I'm told is a scan from the latest Famitsu). In these, it's easy to see... it's multiple people with horns. Oooooooh, I can't wait.

Oh, and as a minor note, new strip and I colored an old strip for Mike Trevino over at Restaurant. Later!

7/24/02 - The new stuff just doesn't stop!

Well, for starters, we have yet another strip today. And I've colored in another two strips - an easy one, and a not-so-easy. And add to that the fact that I've brought color to one of our peices of rec art! Can it get any more exciting? Well, CAN it!?

In other news, it appears Gamespot didn't think very much of Crazy Taxi 3, and I can't say I entirely agree, although I do see where they're coming from. Ultimately, CT3 doesn't add much to what was in the original two games. Viewed as a sequel, yeah, it's probably pretty crappy. But I prefer to view it more as an ultimate compilation, as it has virtually EVERYTHING from the first two games, and then some. And when I played it at E3, the ability to use the Crazy Jump on the first game's city opened up all kinds of new possibilities, and made the game much deeper and more enjoyable than it already was. And then there's the new city, and all the bonus minigames and whatnot.

So I have to wonder, if they score an incredible game compilation without a whole lot of new content like Crazy Taxi 3 a 6.9, how can they justify giving a game with almost zero new content, like Super Mario World for GBA, a Game of the Month award? Either you knock points off for re-releasing, or you don't- make up your minds. We're not talking about the half-assed Crazy Taxi ports Acclaim has been pumping out here. We're talking everything great about the series, spit-shined and polished, and a bunch of new stuff tossed in. I'd say that deserves more than a 6.9. Is it a system-seller? Probably not. But it sure deserves better than this.

*Goes back to coloring*

7/22/02 - MORE New stuff!

I felt the need to keep up my rant pic another week. If Tim's gonna' be advertising the high suck quota of one movie, I think I'll continue to do the same for another. As for the rest, there's so much going on today, I just hope I remember it all.

For starters, new strip. Something that seems to happen a lot more often than it used to these days. Pity it seems our traffic is pretty low lately, now that we actually have content coming on a regular basis. Oh, well. We'll just have to keep working at it.

We also have two more strips in color- this strip (An easy one) and this strip (A more recent one). I hope I keep this roll I seem to be on. The first is nice and all, but I think the lighting in the second one really helps to streamline the joke.

And as a special treat, Tim has drawn a very nice pic of Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. Personally, I did not like FF7, Sam-I-Am, but I can certainly appreciate this character's wonderfully-designed... uhm... design.

And as for opinions on stuff, I saw I Am Sam yesterday.. Very good, and not nearly as predictable as I thought it'd be. Personally knowing someone inflicted with an ailment similar to Sam's, I can say that, while sometimes a little forced, Sean Penn's acting is mostly spot-on. Very good.

Also, the blue shock Mountain Dew Slurpee tastes exactly like blue raspberry Icee, which is a good indication that the Soda'll taste the same. And Taco Bell's new Zesty Chicken Bowl is surprisingly VERY good. I thought it'd be just another way for them to mix their usual ingredients differently in an attempt to sell it off as something new (Something almost every new food over the past five years has suffered from- Remember the 4D quesadillas? Regular Quesadillas with nacho cheese in them. Stuuuuu-pid!), but the new sauce they're using mixed with the unusual not-really-salad salad consistency is very original and very good. Give it a try!

As for me... I need a vacation...

Ask for any autographs and I'll cut
ya.............I, uh, don't really mean that.

7/26/02 - To Otakon!

Yes, I, Tim Torres, am going to the Otaku Convention in beautiful and HOT Baltimore, Maryland! I would've said so sooner, but this really is a spur-of-the-moment thing.

What's this mean for YOU?! Well, nothing really. For me, it means I get to traverse the hallowed halls of the Baltimore Convention Center dressed as Wolfwood, the badass priest from Trigun! I thought about cosplaying as Tim Magus, y'know THE MOGNET CHARACTER, but I'm not that low. And there'll probably be about seventy other Wolfwoods but, dammit, I'm gonna be the best looking Wolfwood there dullgernnit.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the show's first day, but I WILL be on the floor Saturday. I'm not gonna have an artist's booth or whatever, since... well, I never registered for one in this short a time, and I'm not really all that confident to display my art to the OTAKU MASSES at a convention quite yet...maybe next year.

This should be interesting, as I will be an undercover web manga artist, a surveyor, in a world of fans and industry big shots! I'll be sure to take plenty of pics and to buy plenty of merchandise! Merchandise! Merchandise!

So LOOK OUT for a sexy Wolfwood (sans the bigass cross) brandishing a video camera and a goofy grin. If you don't recognize the real Tim Magus at first, I'll be one of the few Wolfwoods hanging out with Rikku...

Till Monday (hopefully)! Enjoy the comic!

7/22/02 - Eight Legged Freaks Eight Legged Blows

Huhuhuhuh, I am so clever.

...

Yeah, I knew it was gonna suck, but I was in the mood for a bad movie. I mean, it's been a LONG LONG time since I've see a REALLY shitty movie.

Hell, even Resident Evil was surpisingly entertaining, and We Were Soldiers was extremely mediocre (and EXTREMELY patriotic). And alas, I missed out on The Time Machine. Oh well, I could always waste another $8 and two hours to see Eddie Murphy's latest, The Adventures of Pluto Nash.... or I could wish real hard and someone would just throw that terrible man out of Hollywood forever. Yeah... boys have dreams...

But I also gotta see Road to Perdition, Reign of Fire, and the Powerpuff Girls movie. Y'know, there's not ONE theater in my area that plays the PPG movie at a NORMAL time? All the times are 1 or 4PM. Who the hell goes to a movie at a time like that?! MAN!! That fries my cheese.

Meanwhile, MOGNET: THE METAL GEAR SOLID ARC is finally moving along and Tim is in the computer laboratory, having skipped many a plot point. There, there, Tim Magus, we're all rootin' for ya.

Oh, before I forget, there's a new piece in the art section. Yup, it's everyone's favorite buxom brawler, Tifa Lockhart! It's been a while since I drew her last, so if she looks a little...off. Blame my awful memory. And yes, I know she's missing Tetsuya Nomura's trademark belts (because I know you're ALL so concerned about that). Maybe I'll add 'em in in the future. Otherwise,

Enjoy!
