![]() Jake's Clever Banter No, really. I know I poke fun at Tim every chance I get, but all it is is poking a little fun. Don't take it to heart, Tim. Meanwhile, I too am looking forward to the onslaught of games coming this week. While Kingdom Hearts and Castlevania were givens, I find myself more and more excited about Animal Leader. Sure, it looks kiddy and toothache-sweet, but there's something unique and ambitious about it that really seems fantastic. That and the E-Card reader seems like an awesome idea. Picture going to the store and buying a pack of cards for five bucks. Maybe you'll get an NES game, or a Game and Watch game (Or possibly something original, or maybe even an original Gameboy game- I'm sure it's possible)... maybe you'll get skins for characters in Gamecube games, or something to unlock hidden characters in the latest fighting game. They could release E-Card sets for the latest updated stats and rosters in sports games... Or... or anything! Unfortunately, so far the truth of the matter doesn't seem to live up to the potential. Nintendo's set on releasing just the NES games, the Animal Crossing bonuses, and the Pokemon cards. No surprises, and little of the "Collectability" element it could have had with randomized card packs. I got a few E-Cards at E3 (That are apparently identical to the ones you get with the device), but Nintendo could easily give out cards at trade shows, make extra-rare cards one of the prizes in a contest or gaming tournament... put them in cereal boxes (A cool idea my friend keyed me in to. Imagine opening into a box of Frosted flakes and getting a copy of Punch-Out!!)... all sorts of things, but it seems Nintendo is starting this small. Hopefully, they'll see what enormous potential this has and run with it, but it seems that right now, they're keeping things tame. Pity. 9/11/02 - God bless America... For starters, we are not selling anything. This comic was what I felt the best way to vent my rage at the easily swayed hearts of those in this country, and the scheming salesmen who try to profit by it. I hate how it suddenly became the "In" thing to be patriotic after 9/11. It's one thing for a country to band together for a common good, but quite another for the latest fashion fad to be the American flag. It angers me that people couldn't care less about their country one minute and then be "Proud to be an American" the next. Patriotism shouldn't be a fad. It pisses me off that when a disaster strikes, every Joe schmo loves America because it's "Cool". One minute, life as normal. The next, pull out the christmas lights and form them in the shape of the flag! You don't have to wear your opinion on your sleeve or on your house- I'm not even really sure it's your opinion to begin with, because you weren't doing it yesterday. I'd even bet half the people out there wearing American flag T-shirts and "I *heart* USA" pins spent a great deal more on American propaganda than they have on donations to causes that actually HELP our country. THAT'S hypocrisy for you. But what's even worse are those looking to profit by all this. It's bad enough the masses are so easily swayed by popular opinion, but for unscrupulous people to make a buck through the country's misfortune... that's horrible. Personally, I say boycott patriotic American products. Speak your opinions to others, show them through your actions by volunteering to help your community, or at least through your pocketbook by donating to a good cause. Only an idiot needs a T-Shirt to tell the world what they feel. On another note, I feel it's a rather low move for other webcomics (You know who you are) to use this day for some kind of "In memory of" day. My yes, how noble you are by spending a day to show how pro-American you are. How thoughtful, that you remember what happened a year ago. How productive, that you drew us a special strip just to tell us all this. I feel as deeply wounded by last year's events as the next American citizen, but I don't try and dress myself up as some remarkable person by drawing an American flag or a bunch of people crying. Last year, right after it happened, it was an outporing of genuine emotion. This year, it's excessive. I like my country. I think this country is probably the best on the planet. But I don't love my country. There are problems too numerous to count, with people in power that shouldn't be, and grave injustices ignored every day. I feel mostly that this country is the best alternative, and the best on the planet only by default. You may think me unpatriotic, rude, and perhaps even out of line in saying this. But I'm giving it to you straight. I'm not sugar-coating my opinion to get you thinking warm, fuzzy thoughts about me. I'd rather you respect me for who I am than for some fluffed-up image of me wrapped in an American flag. Thus endeth my politically incorrect rant. 9/9/02 - I told you we weren't dead For starters, let me just say that yes, we are in fact alive and well. Or rather, I'm alive and well, and Tim's OK aside from being touched in the head. Second, Greece has officially been awarded the "Dumbest country of the month" award from Mognet. This award has been consecutively won by Afghanistan every month for a year now, but Greece really deserves it this month. Anyways, maybe I'll talk about that later, but in the meantime, we have a brand new strip (No, really), as well as two peices of fan art- "Mini Tim and Cas", by Mikko Shinji and "Cas as Vash" by Jet BIack Dog (Had to use the E-Mail name, as no actual name was provided). Anyways... enjoy! |
![]() Tim's Clever Banter ARMOUR HOT DOGS! Yes. Well, it seems that Batman vs. Superman movie is dead. And after alllllllll that. Shit, I hate Hollywood. Instead we're getting a Superman remake from Brett Ratner, the guy behind the overrated Rush Hour movies and the upcoming Hannibal Lecter prequel, Red Dragon. It seems all this guy's gonna do is Jackie Chan comedies and remakes. His Samurai Jack live-action movie has been rumored for a while, but the way things are going now I bet the cartoon will be cancelled before that project ever sees a chance. Speaking of cancellation, the fucktards running the Sci-Fi Channel have cancelled Farscape, the last interesting and worthwhile show on TV. I knew it was gonna happen sometime, but I didn't think it'd be this soon. It's reasonable to think that the fuckos who cancelled Mystery Science Theater, Good vs. Evil, and The Invisible Man would cancel one MORE awesome piece of programming, but it's just too sad to believe. So, see ya 'round, Sci-Fi. Heck, I'm saying goodbye to my TV. At least I've got the second Excel Saga DVD to watch yet... and I still gotta finish the Escaflowne series before I get the movie. And of course, the End of Evangelion DVD is out next week. Whew. Anyway, enough consumer woes. Hmm. Although, on a slightly related note, I would like to commend Jake for his 9/11 editorial. It takes a lot of courage to truly state and back up your beliefs and opinions, and Jake did so admirably. I too share his sentiments on the whole "bandwagon patriot" thing, as close-minded morons like that run rampant everywhere these days, especially in such a closed environment as a high school. Christ, high school fuggin' breeds idiots like that.
But enough talk! Have at you! And enjoy the comic, and
your weekend! *off to see Ecks vs. Sever and
