![]() Jake's Clever Banter Another example of how Half-Life rocks. The soldier-dude that says this does so ONLY when you get to a spot that's perfect for a clean headshot, so it's obvious the game's creators set up this hillarious situation intentionally, but I still can't help but laugh my ass off after blowing the guy's brains out right after he says that line. Anyways, the "Tim, get your ass in gear!" contest is going pretty well, with a few entries already. Tim was completely surprised by this, as I didn't tell him ANYTHING about it. In fact, we've been talking about ANOTHER contest coming up probably later this year. Hey, our readers kick ass, and I have no problem with giving out free stuff every now and then. Today's strip is a good example of that. Keglamorphic aparently sent it to me, having nothing to do with the contest (Though I'll consider it an entry anyways), and it's really great to see our readers pitch in during a crisis like this. And though I've said it on the messageboard, I'll say it here, too: Guest strips are ALWAYS welcome at Mognet, even if they end up being featured on our gift art page rather than on our main page (As this strip is). In the videogame world today, it seems the Fall TGS has started up, and a whole buncha' stuff has happened. For starters, Sega announced it'd be porting Skies of Arcadia to the PS2 and Gamecube, to which I have mixed reactions. On the one hand, I'm saddened by the fact that my one reason for owning a Dreamcast has fizzled away. On the other hand, I'm delighted by the fact that so many people who missed the game it's first go-around because they didn't buy the Dreamcast, can now play it. And I'm also delighted that the PS2 will get one more incredible RPG to it's name, and the Gamecube will have one in it's infancy. It's a rare thing these days to see a videogame system get such an incredible RPG this early in it's life span. PS2 owners and future Gamecube owners listen up: If you don't get this game when it comes out I will hunt you down and kill you. On the flipside of things, Sega announced that Shenmue 2 would be coming to the X-Box, and would in fact be X-Box exclusive in America. X-Box advocates may laugh at the thought of the system's competitors getting a year-old port, while their system gets a new game, but from my perspective, the PS2 and Gamecube are getting one of the best RPGs ever made, and the X-Box is getting a sequel to the ultra-pretty Japanese Boring Simulator. And then there's the sequels to Sega GT, also being released on the X-Box. Funny, although everyone wants to compare Sega GT to Gran Turismo, I find them two completely different games. Gran Turismo is actually fun. People might think I'm a Sega-hater for saying so (Although they'd be daft to do so after the praise I've given SoA, and my great love for Chu Chu Rocket), but it seems everyone wants to compare their products with the masters of the respective genres, and every time I see it, I think it's laughable. Sega GT's controls seemed to me to have a degree of detatchment to the cars, as if what was going on were almost dreamlike, wheras Gran Turismo's controls are, in a word, perfect. Sonic Adventure was witless and often repetitive, a far cry from the brilliance and wonder of Super Mario 64. And I wanna' know who was the genius that thought Jet Grind Radio smoked the likes of Tony Hawk and SSX. Anyways, in other news, I just saw Memento, and dear GOD, this movie rocks. It combines some of the best stuff from Fight Club, L.A. Confidential, and ESPECIALLY M. Night Shamlyan's works (The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable). Don't believe that crap you hear about this being some kind of "Thriller"- This is a psychological mystery where the audience is placed in the same shoes as the protagonist- given the same handicap (The inability to retain short-term memories). How is that done? The movie is basically played backwards, from end to start. I reiterate: You must see this movie. Oh, on a final note, you'll all be relieved to know that no one has sent Tim any nude pictures just yet. But the mere threat of one has him scared silly (OK, maybe not, but it SHOULD). We can always hope, though... 10/10/01 - Alright, that's it I'm as sick of this as you are. Being a little late or missing a day is one thing, but this is just crazy, and as I've exhuasted all my resources trying to get Tim to get his arse back in gear (He is, after all, a minor working for free), I've decided to come to you, the readers of the strip. Starting today, and going through until Friday, October 19th, I'm starting the "Tim, get your ass in gear!" contest, the winner of which will recieve a brand new copy of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for the Sony Playstation (Sans the pendant- I'm keeping that for ME). Yeah, I know, I'm a cheap bastard, but it's better than nothing. So there it is- any further lateness of strips I can blame completely on your lack of support. How's about THAT! Oh, and even if Tim starts to put up strips regularly while the contest is still running, I'll still take entries until it's done- I want Tim to get the message here. Meantime, I'll be playing Half-Life. That's right, after years of fighting my terrible fear of PC games (patches, fixes, and drivers, oh my!), I installed my dust-collecting copy of Half-Life. And let me say, even though the graphics are archaic by today's standards, the game rocks in every way imaginable. Although Doom, Goldeneye, and Medal of Honor still have a warm spot secured in my heart, I can totally see why everyone that says this is the best FPS ever. I'm now the last person in the world to have played this game, right? Because if any of you schmos hasn't played it yet, it's about damn time! Get goin'! Also, apparently Square and Sony are inking a deal for Sony to purchase 19% of Square. And though Square claims this won't have any affect on them publishing on other platforms, and Sony says that they have no intention of keeping Square from publishing on other platforms, this almost guaruntees that Square will continue to make games for only the PS2 (With the obvious exception of Wonderswan games, the probable exception of Final Fantasy XI, and the potential exception of Gameboy Advance games). Although this doesn't amount to much on the Gamecube side of things (Wrinkly old Yamauchi wouldn't have let Square back into the Nintendo club anyways), it kinda' makes the rumors of Square X-Box games (Chrono Cross X and Bushido Blade X being the names tossed around) unlikely of becoming true. Really, Microsoft would have been better off doing what Nintendo's seemingly been doing all along- trying to court Enix. In any case, this certainly makes for another interesting turn of events in the console race. Just goes to show you, this is still perhaps the most unpredictable face-off between platforms ever, and no one can truly predict how this'll all turn out. 10/9/01 - *Sigh* Apparently Tim's having trouble keeping prompt lately, and it appears his track stuff and schoolwork have temporarily gobbled up his time. He's actually considering the idea of changing the rate at which we put up comics, but I say we grab our torches and pitchforks, and march over and FORCE him to get the comics done on time. I'd hate to submit you guys to more SGG, but believe me when I say, if Tim forces me to do so again so soon, he won't like it (Gom will see to that). I know comics have been somewhat scarce lately, and the last thing I wanna' do is pull a Megatokyo on you... But it's not up to me at the moment... *Sigh* Anyways, some stuff has happened, but I'm too tired to talk about it right now. Maybe tomorrow. *Falls asleep* 10/8/01 - Nerrrrrp. Tim says he's gonna' be late in getting me the strip today. Why am I not surprised? Oh well, there goes even more of our readership. |
![]() Tim's Clever Banter Another comic strip done late. I suppose I should apologize now: Sorry! Today, I think I'll explain a little bit about NERV, the U.N.-backed based in Tokyo-3, Japan. NERV was founded a little while after the Second Impact, its goal is, basically, to defeat the Angels and to prevent a Third Impact from ever happening. NERV's Project E, an effort between Japan, America, and Germany, gave way to the construction of the Evangelions -- the biomechanical robots of the title. The mothers of Shinji and Asuka were involved heavily in Project E, until... well, until they died. Dr. Ritsuko Akagi, a NERV technician and friend to Misato, also had a mother who died during Project E's duration. However, before Dr. Akagi's death, she had the three main parts of her personality transplanted into three LARGE computers: the MAGI, consisting of Melchior, Gaspar, and Belthasar. These three supercomputers control NERV and the rest of Tokyo-3. Beans beans beans. By the way, fanservice is basically gratuitous shots of female naughty bits... dedicated to the fans! WOO!!! |
