![]() Jake's Clever Banter This time, though, he's actually working on the strip, so we'll hopefully see a new one up by Monday. Hopefully. Anyways... As for me, I seem to be getting good and bad mixed pretty equally lately. I finally got my new PC, so I can get the chance to use my advance copy of Windows XP. Only problem is, it's not an advance copy anymore, since it's just been released. Well, crap. Anyways, I get started on starting things up, and so far (I haven't installed a lot of stuff just yet) it's all working beautifully... except the for my scanner (Epson hasn't put out new drivers for it just yet), and my Homeportal, which means I can't get on the internet with the thing (My primary use for the PC). I've tried faking it by using a crossover to hook directly into one of the other PCs, but it's not working (Even though it tells me the two are networked, they're not). Again, not surprising, since I was trying to overlap one network on top of another. Oh, and for those looking to bad-mouth Win XP, I'll give ya' some cannon fodder- I was able to make it have a tremendously crippling system crash on the first day I used it. Granted, I did so by trying to install said Homeportal, which it actually warned me against doing, so more than likely, it's my own damn fault. Other unusual devices I expected not to work, like my PSX DexDrive, work perfectly, despite that Interact makes no mention of Win XP support on their page. For those who don't know what Windows XP is, let me explain. Windows XP is Microsoft's newest version of their Windows operating system, just released yesterday. Rather than the lackluster Windows ME, Windows XP does indeed appear to be all that and, yes, a bag of salted potato snacks. The general idea is that it combines the best parts of Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Windows 98 has always been the version to get if ya' want to play games, and a lot of compatable hardware and software. But it crashes a hell of a lot. Windows 2000 has always been the version to get if ya' don't want your system to crash, and you want extra network security. But it doesn't have a lot of software support. Windows XP, on the other hand, is based on a fortified Windows 2000-type of operating system (Supposedly four times as stable, and a hundred times as stable as Win 98), but has compatability modes to work with Windows 95 and 98 stuff. In addition, it has a cool new multi-user login feature that lets multiple people use the computer with their own desktop, settings, wallpaper, etc., without interfering with other people's stuff. Add in a keen new interface with tons of new goodies, and you get an operating system that'll probably become the new industry standard. If it sounds like I'm gushing, it's only because everyone else I've talked to that used it has had nothing particularly bad to say about it (A first for a new release of Windows). Even the one major worry people had (The WPA - Windows product activation) turns out to be a simple 5-minute phone call to an automated service meant to prevent installations of the same software on multiple systems, rather than being put on hold for hours to get to registering your product so your soul belonged to Microsoft, as many believed it to be. As for me... Well, I just started using it, so if ya' have any questions about the thing I haven't thought of, go ahead and post 'em on the messageboard. Meantime, I'll be trying to get in touch with 2Wire to bug them about having a Homeportal that screws up my computer. ;-) Update: 2Wire says they're working on drivers as we speak, and are hoping to have them ready in a matter of days. Yay! 10/24/01 - It's so.... warm. Yeah, the Final Fantasy DVD is out, and I'm all over it. Well, I'm not thrilled about it, to be sure (Even though it was a great movie deserving of more than the piddle showing it got at the box office). But I'm definetly more enthusiastic about it than the recently-released Star Wars: Ep 1 and Mummy Returns DVD- not because I didn't like those movies, but because my Spider Sense tells me there's a good chance we'll see re-released "Ultimate Editions" of them by the end of next year. That's the thing you've gotta' hate about the Star Wars movies in particular by now- George Lucas is never satisfied with his already tight grip on our wallets, and there's always one more interview, one more unreleased scene, one more preview he's sure to be hiding from the world until they think they've safely acquired a complete collection. On the gaming side of things, my wallet gets even thinner as I dive into Batman: Vengance. These past few days I've actually been playing this more than Devil May Cry, despite that I like Devil May Cry a lot more. But there's something hypnotizing about this game. Although the game elements aren't extremely well-done, the presentation is top-notch, and all the storyline elements are perfect. The first-stage boss, for example. You fight the Joker on top of the Gotham Bridge, under demolition. He's trying to kill you by ramming into you with a wrecking ball he's swinging on, all the while, singing merrily (Mark Hamill in classic form, just like the TV show), "Gotham Bridge is falling down, falling down, FALLING DOWN! Gotham Bridge is falling down, my dead batsy!" And it seems they actually put some good thought into the story, too. *Spoilers ahoy!* Later on, Batgirl is talking to Batman about a doctor reaserching cryogenic freezing processes that Mr. Freeze attacked. (Forgive me if this isn't word-for-word exact) Batgirl: Get this- It seems the doctor's funding is mostly from large donations at times that coincide with the Joker's big bank hits. Batman: The Joker is funding the doctor? Batgirl: He's done stranger things... Batman: Not without a punchline. Most developers would be happy to have one fight with one villain, then another fight with another villain, and so on. This is a licensed game, you see. But Ubi decided to make one continous story involving all the characters, and it actually makes sense. And the presentation is so dead-on, it really is like playing through an episode of the TV show. Also, IGN is very convinced that I MUST buy Grand Theft Auto III. And the way they describe it... the kind of freedom they're talking about... Stealing a cab and taking fares, stealing as police car and busting criminals, going to the top of a building and shooting the populace from above like a madman. I've never played any of the games in this series, but from all the things they're talking about, I think now's a good time to start. But, in the meantime, while I wait for it to come into my store, I think I have more than enough games to keep me company. And then there IS that webcomic thingie I'm supposed to work on. And on that note, I'll leave you with a guest strip by good ol' George Young, AKA Furysword. 10/22/01 - Bwahahahahaha... I guess today may as well be Devil May Cry day here at Mognet. My new pic reflects my great love for this game, and the new comic obviously draws inspiration from it as well. Oh, and for those of you sick of seeing Gom, Tim informs me his track meet stuff is now over and finished, so he should (Hopefully) get back to the strip-making stuff real soon. Meantime, we have a few odds and ends to tie up, don't we? That's right, the contest is over and I've picked a winner. The results can be seen on the contest page. Thanks again to all who entered! Oh, and Yahiko? Tim was heartbroken that you didn't send an entry. He was dying to see what yoou were working on. Hehehe... Just trying to get Tim in trouble with his current female interest. Tim, you is such a playa'! Heh. He'll no doubt hurt me greatly for those comments, and explaining the situation to you guys would get me in even worse trouble... And besides, I know better than to mess with ther people's love lifes. Oh, and for those who'd like to make out well on a great deal on PS2 games, check out the link. Meantime, I'll be kickin' ass in DmC... |
![]() Tim's Clever Banter Hello, cooks! Sorry for my absence! But I've been rather busy lately! You see, my life has resembled a horribly clichéd movie-- or maybe even an episode of Evangelion, over the past couple of days. But that's all blown over now, thank God, and I can now concentrate on more important things! Like videogames! and MOGNET!! YEAH!!!!!!! So, now, I've got to say...
YOU GUYS KICK ASS.All of you! The readers (you guys just keep visiting)! The readers who actually took their time to send contest entries (all of which kicked much ass)! Jake (egads, you put up with me so well)! My friends (support r0x0rz)! I love you guys!! Aaaaaaand sorry for the lack of another strip @_>... It's STILL not finished, and instead of rushing out a piece of crap that could resemble some of my past efforts I'm gonna take an extra couple of hours to fine-tune it into something that's actually worth waiting for. I mean, you've been waiting a couple of weeks for a new strip. Why waste it? Right? Right?! Besides! Cross country's over (man, what a KICKASS season I've had!) and with that time left over, I can spend it drawing more strips and playing... DEVIL MAY CRY!! Oh my GOD, does this game rock!! The controls, the graphics, the gameplay, the STYLE... it BLEEDS STYLE! And yes, I am still playing Silent Hill 2, the freaky little gem it is. The Pyramid Head monster isn't the freakiest videogame character ever. It's the freakiest thing ever. As for Ico... well, that'll get more playtime once SH2 is finished -_^. I can't wait to play it. But off course I have to play through SH2 first... but what about DMC? That needs attention to. Ahh, the tough life of a gamer... and with all the AAA titles coming out soon... Grand Theft Auto III (which IGN loved), Tsugunai: Atonement, Batman Vengeance (The best Batman game ever??), Mega Man Battle Network, Golden Sun, and... off course... Metal Gear Solid 2. Well, I've run out of things to rant about. Oh, no wait, I haven't. I'm just tired. HEY! Look at that! |
