Okay, first and foremost, I'm sorry Monday's and Wednesday's updates are coming late. For those that haven't been following this on the forums, Keenspace's update scripts are acting VERY screwy, and one way or another refuse to update my 'site. I had everything done and ready, but there wasn't a damn thing I could do to make it so you could see it. Hopefully things should be fixed now, but I have no way of knowing... *Crosses fingers*. If it is working, you can click the "Previous" button to see Wednesday's strip. Anyways, after all that, this is the first time I can remember where prettymuch all I had to do was update the main page. That's right, no extra art, no contest. Just me.... Wait, don't go! On a side-note, Tim's back, though I'll bet he's still suffering from vacationitis, so he may or may not be writing rants fairly soon. Also, before I forget, I realized something I said the other day was untrue. I claimed that Rush Hour 2 was, in my opinion, the first good non-animated movie this year, but I'd forgotten about a guilty pleasure- The Mummy Returns. But yeah, aside from that, there's not a whole heck of a lot I thought was even decent. In the game world, it seems that what's very likely the PSX's last year will be the Year of the Re-Makes. I mean, we already had our combination FFIV/Chrono Trigger re-make, the Arc the Lad Collection is still on the way (If it even makes it this year), and now they've announced a re-make of Dragon Warrior 4. Hey, I'm not complaining. Though I got to play FFIV and Chrono Trigger before, many people didn't, and I never was able to play the Arc the Lad games or DW4, so they'll be new to me! Meantime, Idunno if any of you have noticed, but it seems the PS2 has really picked up steam lately. I mean, there have certainly been some awesome games coming out for it since launch (You just need to know where to look), but over the next few months, to prepare for war against MS and Nintendo, we'll see the floodgates start to open. MGS2, Silent Hill 2, Ico, Devil May Cry, Herdy Gerdy, Maximo, and ports of Deus Ex, Tribes 2... I should stop right here, as I'll be going on forever. The point is that any one of these games on it's own would be an awesome way to end the year, but we're getting a whole buttload of them. Sure, the Gamecube's launch looks bright, and I suppose the X-Box could turn out well, as well... But thinking about it, the PS2 could very well have the best holiday season a game system's ever had this holiday. Hell, with Gran Turismo 3 and Klonoa 2, it's already had a great start. Meantime... uhh... see you next update! 8/6/01 - You gotta' love Jackie Chan Note: Alright, the comic and the contest results should both be up now. So let me sleep. Sure, the guy can't act, half of his movies seem like carbon copies of one another, and his appearance on SNL was a miserable failure, but if you find me someone who still doesn't love this man, I'll find you someone who has no soul. While critics seem eager to lash out at his latest movie, I thought it was just fantastic, and the first good non-animated movie this year. Although it's unfortunate that the plot is a great deal more unrealistic than the first movie (And Chris Tucker is a great deal less subtle, if such a thing is possible in the first place), and every now and then a joke fizzles out, aside from that, it was outstanding. Chan and Tucker have a fantastic chemistry, and tossing Zhang Ziyi into the movie... Well, hell. As far as I'm concerned, Zhang Ziyi's presence can make any movie kick ass. *Spoilers ahoy!* It's just a damn shame the ending to her final fight was so... stupid. And then, completely out-of-character, she goes kamikaze? I would have perferred her to dissapear into the shadows to return in Rush Hour 3. And what is up with the scene with Chan's character and the telescope? Again, painfully out-of-character.*End spoilers* Anyways, you're probably wondering about the contest, right? Well, you can see who won on the contest. Thanks to everyone that entered, and so ya' know, even if you didn't win, all your entries will be displayed in the art section of the 'site. Moving on, in today's comic, we finally get back on track with a keen colored strip. I have to give kudos to Ish on this one. We took about two weeks to find a design for this one that we both liked, but in the end, I think we got something that looks fantastic. Oh, and no, that wasn't the reason why we did a Shirt-guy week, but the fact that the timing of the two coincided was great luck anyways. Anyways, Tim should be back any day now, if he's not already back to update for today. No doubt he'll be smelling fresh and clean, like an Irish stream, and... sorry, had that soap commercial stuck in my brain. A quick archiving of last week's rants, a fix to a few errors, and we're all set! Oh, and I guess it's about time I stopped ending my rants with a message about how Gran Turismo 3 rocks. It's probably gotten annoying, no doubt. |
